Mambo!
Yesterday we have welcomed the second HKU group. The Audio Visual Students Anna, Evelyne, Paco & Tobias.
We had to wait for almost an hour at Kilimanjaro Airport. We couldn't see the group so we (and certaintly me) became a little nervous. Finaly the last group was our group, departing the arrivals... A part of the equipment wasn't taken in to the ariplane. Today it will be sended to KFI.
The group was really impressed by seeing the surroundings of Tanzania, and it was dark!
When we arrived at KFI all students shake hands and hugged the new dutch teachers. After a nice meal and little chats with the students we went to our guesthouse to drink a cold Kilimanjaro beer. After the drink, at 12.00 pm we celebrated Paco's(the one with Ajax shirt) 24th birthday.
This morning everybody was excited to start. First Joseph teached about sound design, after that the new group introduced themselves and gave an assignment to the students. The students had to introduce themselves by filming eachother and telling about there life and ambitions. When everyone was ready the group presented the films. The assignment was to be creative but not everyone seem to understand that. Well thats why we're here! They saw how their head teacher (Msechu) introduced himself with camera and then the students understanded a little bit what creativity was. Now the group of HKU students presenting their work and explaining how they produced their films, also they discussed about the creative choises wich were made in these films.
I have had a lot of chats with the general manager Sam. There are two assignments for the school wich we had to prepare. The first is a shout out for the famous rappers XplastaZ at KFI. This will be used for the lead of an famous East African Channel. The second is to film frequently (every sunday in june)talentshows in the citycentre of Arusha. First sunday there will be 75 artist participating. The 4th and last show will be the final.
We have to arrange people, plans, finances, meetings etc. Very exciting and educational for all of us!
So far everything is good, the students reacting well on the lessons we give. Some need more explanation, others are really talented! We think the students will learn a lot of us!
Kwaheri!
