Our first day @ KFI

Mambo! (This is the word for asking "how are you?")

Yesterday it was our first day @ the institute. After arriving sunday night we hadn't really met the students and staff of KFI so this was the moment. First Joseph (Joep) and I introduced our selfs afterwards the each student stood up and introduced him/herself. We are dealing with a group of 18 students and the first impressions of the group are really fine. A warm, nice and even funny group! Every day starts, after having breakfast, with discussions about poverty and luck and lacks of having enough or not onough hospitals, schools etc.
Afterwards there is space for teaching film/edit lessons. These has started today (tuesday), Joseph kicked off his workshop 'Sound Design'. He talked about it, presentend a documentary about sound designs in the movie King Kong and gave the students an assignment to link different sounds to different images.
Back to our first day.. After having lunch we had little chats with students. Than we went with the staff (Sam & Msechu) to the city of Arusha. This visit brought us a lot of impressions. A really busy and chaotic city centre. Everwhere you looked there where litlle shops with a lot of business going on. We went to buy sim cards, so now we can reach eachother by mobile phone.
We have seen te town market always and in every country nice to see. We walked our way in the city. Msechu met a lot of friends and everyone was also very friendly to us. From the city you can see the Mount Meru very clearly. Wow what a fantastic mountain. On our way back towards KFI we take the Dala Dala, a little bus which won't drive if it isn't fully loaded with people. A real experience to us. A lot of these busses are driving in and around te city and in every Dala Dala there are two crew members, the driver and a person who is looking constantly for new people to take with them into the Dala Dala.

Tonight the first Audio Visual Media students from Holland will arrive. Tommorow we will tell you how their first experiences of Tanznia are.

Stay tuned!

  1. Yo Ari!

Good to hear you're doing well. I hope you guys have a lot of fun and can see more of the country. Maybe teach the students about some Dutch stuff, that might be funny :). Enjoy and I'll keep following you guys!
